Alternator removal and installation

(1) Disconnect wire (1) between the alternator and

relay and ground harness, unscrew the adjusting

plate bolts, and remove the fan belt.

(2) Unscrew bolts (2) securing the alternator bracket,

and remove alternator assembly (3) from the engine.

(1) Pull the three through bolts, and break the alter-

nator into the rotor (complete with front bracket

and pulley) and stator (complete with rear bracket).

(2) Hold the rotor in a

vise.

Unscrew the pulley nut,

and remove the pulley.

To reassemble, follow the reverse

disassembly

procedure. Lift two brushes up into the brush

box

and pass a pin through the screw holes in the

box

and brushes

keep the brushes depressed. After

reassembling the alternator, be sure to remove the

pin.
